Typically anxiety attacks will involve an emotional and physical response by the body.
Physical symptoms may include (but are not exclusive to), sweating, trembling, dizziness, quickened heart rate and short breath.
Emotional symptoms may include a feeling of dread, panic, fear and inability to concentrate.
If you suffer from anxiety attacks there are things that you can do to help prevent them and decrease the frequency of which they occour.
The first thing you will need to do is acknowledge that you are an anxiety attack sufferer. Anxiety attacks are almost an illusion. They have a incredible ability to self perpetuate themsleves into something bigger than they really are. Think of it this way: You have an anxiety attack and because you are having an anxiety attack you panic because you are having an anxiety attack... it is a snowballed situation and the symptoms will increase the more you try to resist.
If you do have an anxiety attack, acknowledge it for what it is. Try to rationzlize with your mind that it is ONLY an anxiety attack and that it will be over soon. Dont fight it as it will pass momentarily.
The second thing you can do is apply breathing and relaxation techniques. this may take some practice but well worth the effort. If you relax your mind your body will follow in turn thus reducing the physical symptoms of an attack. Read books on meditation and mindfulness techniques that focus on anxiety and stress. Do not under estimate the power of these tools, if you have never been open to meditation try it now.. its easy to learn and there is a ton of information at the local library or online for you to practice.
A third tip on how to stop an anxiety attack and this is more of a preventative measure, is to get regular exercise. This may seem like common sense but if you dont do any kind of physical activity it may be time to start. Not only will you feel better but you will greatly reduce your chances of having an anxiety attack in the first place. You do not need to turn your lifestyle upside down but just try doing a few small things like taking a bike to work, or taking the stairs instead of the elevator untill you are ready to take it the next level.
